Re "Cut From a Dangerous Mold" (First, June 10): The public must realize that mold litigation does more damage than mold itself. As insurers, builders, and landlords run for cover, homeowners will feel the effects. Insurance premiums will dramatically increase, homeowner policies won't be renewed, rents will increase, and affordable housing for families will become even more scarce.

There is no scientific backing to the claim that mold is harmful. Before the public gets swept up in panic-inspired mold litigation, we should expose this scare for what it is: a new moneymaking venture for personal-injury lawyers.
