1997-Tinkering Around The Edges

Several lawsuit reforms were adopted during the 1997 legislative session. Bills effecting out-of-state lawsuits and interlocutory appeals immediately became law after being signed by the Governor. New standards affecting summary judgment and wrongful discharge were approved by the Texas Supreme Court. The three remaining legislative remedies took effect September 1, 1997. Proposed changes regarding privity, premises and third party liability failed in the legislature. None of the lawsuit reforms of 1995 were eroded.
